Q: Does the scheme include affordable housing?
A: Yes. Part of the proposed 111 homes will be provided as affordable housing. The number of affordable units is to be agreed with the Council as part of the planning application process.
Q: How tall will the buildings be?
A: The buildings proposed are five-storeys high, with the top floor set back to limit the visual impact of the buildings. The height has been reduced by approximately a metre since our autumn 2008 consultation, and we feel that the buildings fit well within the immediate context; acting as a gradual step up between the smaller-scale homes on one side, and the National Archives and the larger buildings situated closer to the river.
Q: How many jobs are likely to be provided on the site?
A: The care home will probably employ in the region of 77 people, whilst the commercial element is likely to provide approximately 80 jobs. This gives a total of approximately 157 jobs on the site.
Q: Will there be any retail units within the scheme?
A: Commercial space has been included in the proposals, in keeping with Richmond Council’s policy of including commercial uses on this site, but at this stage it is not known who will occupy these units.
Q: Will the central courtyard be open to the public?
A:The central courtyard is envisaged as a multi-use space which is provided primarily for the use of the future residents however it will also be open to the public. The scheme also includes public open space situated by the commercial units.
